Akwaaba! Welcome!
Welcome to the website of the Czech Republic based non-profit organization, Akwaaba. Akwaaba means “welcome” in Twi, the most spoken local language in West African Ghana, the country where Akwaaba operates.
When visiting Ghana you will hear the expression “akwaaba” countless times from always smiling Ghanians. Our aim is to bring this smile to the faces of the children at the United Hearts Children Center in Bawjiase.
Akwaaba works on a voluntary basis and therefore all the money raised go straight to the United Hearts! Akwaaba supports exclusively United Hearts and recently accomplished projects are:
*A child sponsorship programme comprised of regular monthly payments. Sponsors contribute toward the education, healthcare and dietary needs of the Children Centre.
*land for sustainability projects
* co-financing of the new dormitories (together with US based non-profit Mamahope)
* digging of water well
* school fees, uniforms + school supplies (2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013)
* nutrition check up of all children and designing of a balanced menu
* dining tables
*health insurance for all the children (2011, 2012, 2013)
Akwaaba is registred with the Home Department of the Czech Republic as non-profit organization.
